The 9th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is being played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Eden Gardens on Thursday (April 6). The game started with a misunderstanding during the toss, as match referee Shakti Singh heard the wrong call from visiting skipper Faf du Plessis.
Faf Du Plessis apparently called heads at the toss and it came as heads but the match referee somehow heard the RCB captain calling it tails, and eventually it resulted in some confusion. Former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, who was conducting the toss, did hear the call though and confirmed that it was Faf who won it.

Talking to Manjrekar during the toss, Faf du Plessis said, “Going to have a bowl. Bit of a misunderstanding with the accent there (confusion at the toss). Was dew last night. Hoping it will get skiddy in the second innings. That’s a long way away. Today is a completely new game. Really motivated to put in a good performance.”
#RCB have won the toss and elect to bowl first against #KKR at the Eden Gardens.
