The veteran believes PBKS’ success is rooted in the sheer variety and attacking depth within their bowling attack, allowing them to dictate terms across all phases of a match.

Following Punjab’s commanding 54-run win over Lucknow Super Giants, du Plessis highlighted how the team’s bowlers bring flexibility and control, giving the captain multiple match-winning options. “When we are talking about putting bowling attacks together, you want variety,” he said. As a captain, you’ve got different guns at your disposal that you can use at various stages. That’s what gives them great balance and flexibility.”

What sets PBKS apart, according to du Plessis, is their emphasis on wicket-taking rather than merely containing runs. The bowling lineup features proven performers like Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, and Xavier Bartlett, all of whom bring unique skill sets to the table.

“It’s not a team lacking attacking skills,” Faf du Plessis explained. “You look at the names — they are all frontline wicket-takers. With the new ball, you have swing, bounce, and execution. Arshdeep, for example, is excellent with his yorkers.”

This ability to constantly threaten batters, even when shifting into defensive phases, makes the Punjab Kings a dangerous side. Du Plessis pointed out that opposition players are always under pressure because the bowlers can strike at any moment.

“They can go defensive when needed, but as a batter, you always feel like they can get you out,” he added.

Another key factor behind PBKS’ dominance is their squad depth. Players like Vyshak Vijaykumar provide valuable support, stepping in seamlessly when required, while experienced spinner Yuzvendra Chahal continues to play an aggressive role with the ball.
