The architect of India’s downfall was Dunith Wellalage, who delivered a magnificent spell, claiming 5 wickets for 40 runs in his 10 overs. However, his valiant efforts couldn’t secure victory for Sri Lanka, as they fell short by 41 runs. After the match concluded, a video depicting a fan altercation in the stadium quickly went viral on social media platforms.

The video shows a fan wearing a Sri Lankan jersey charging toward another individual and engaging in physical altercations.  Later in the video, a group of people can be seen sternly warning two others and instructing them to leave the venue.

Turning back to the cricket action, India won the toss and decided to bat first. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a strong opening partnership, amassing 80 runs for the first wicket from 67 balls. However, Wellalage’s brilliant spell shifted the momentum in Sri Lanka’s favor, as he dismissed Gill (19 off 25), Rohit Sharma (53 off 48), and Virat Kohli (3 off 12), leaving India at 90/3.

The left-arm spinner achieved a significant milestone by securing his first-ever five-wicket haul, dismantling India’s batting lineup with his impressive figures. Moreover, Wellalage emerged as the top scorer for Sri Lanka, contributing an unbeaten 42 runs from 46 balls, featuring three fours and a six.

Wellalage played a crucial role in a 63-run partnership with Dhananjaya de Silva (41 off 66) for the seventh wicket. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find adequate support from the rest of the Sri Lankan batters, leading to their eventual dismissal for 172 runs. Despite Sri Lanka ending up on the losing side, Wellalage was rightfully named the Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance.
