The 50th match of the 10th season of the Indian Premier League was played between Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils at Lions’ second home ground, Green Park in Kanpur, last night. The concept of the second home ground is a worth-watching experience for fans who get to witness their favourite cricketers in cities who do not have an IPL franchise.
Such was a case yesterday. In what a home ground for the captain of Gujarat Lions (both in terms of Lions and Uttar Pradesh), Suresh Raina, his fans were enthralled to see their local hero play. The excitement rose to such an extent that during the second innings of the match, a fan crossed all security-barriers and ran to the ground to meet Raina.
A paper in his hand depicted how badly he wanted an autograph from the southpaw. Raina, who has scored 7,643 runs across formats at the international level has a huge fan base. But the fans should realise that such acts can give birth to acts which might harm a particular individual (Raina, in this case).
Security present at the venue should also be more proactive in terms of making sure that no such acts happen in the future. Considering that particular fan’s intentions in mind, it is still essential to prevent such acts happening in the stadium. At the end of the day, players like Raina are international stars and need to be dealt in the most suitable way.
