Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli made an emotional appearance at the Wankhede Stadium during Mumbai Indians’ final IPL 2026 league match, with videos of the former batter struggling to walk quickly going viral across social media. The 54-year-old, once considered among India’s most naturally gifted batters, attended the match to support Mumbai Indians despite ongoing health concerns.

In several clips shared online, Kambli was seen walking slowly with assistance from two individuals. Although he appeared physically weak, fans were relieved to see him smiling and interacting warmly at the stadium, prompting an outpouring of emotion from the cricket community.
Kambli’s appearance also reinforced recent comments made by his wife, Andrea Hewitt, who had dismissed rumours claiming that his condition had severely worsened. “By God’s grace, Vinod is fine. I don’t know who is spreading false information about his health,” Andrea told India Today.

“Ever since he was hospitalised in Thane about 18 months ago, Kambli has had a clot in his brain. His memory is not good. He remembers things and then forgets about them,” Couto said.
Andrea later clarified that while Kambli occasionally experiences memory lapses, his overall health has improved significantly in recent months.

For many fans, Kambli’s visit to Wankhede became one of the most emotional moments of the evening. Once hailed alongside childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar as one of Mumbai cricket’s brightest talents, Kambli represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs before his career gradually faded due to injuries and off-field struggles. Even today, his deep love for cricket continues to resonate strongly with fans.
