Exactly three years ago, Faf du Plessis scored his third ODI century against Zimbabwe at Harare. du Plessis had already scored two centuries against Australia earlier in the series. However, this one would have been special for his as he earned his third ‘Man of the Match’ award in ODIs for the match-winning innings.
In what was the last of the league matches, the then Zimbabwean captain, Elton Chigumbura, won the toss and chose to field. du Plessis came in to bat in the first over itself as South Africa lost de Kock (2) to Tendai Chatara. Soon, Hashim Amla (14) walked the the long walk back to the pavilion.
du Plessis was firm at one end and received able support from Rilee Rossouw (36) and JP Duminy (51). He completed his century in the 47th over and ended up scoring 121 (140) with the help of five fours and four sixes. In reply, Zimbabwe could only manage to score 208-10 in 47.2 overs and lost the match by 63 runs.
South Africa went on to win the series by after defeating Australia in the final by 6 wickets. du Plessis was declared the Man of the Series as he was the highest run-scorer in the series.
