After taking a 1-0 lead in the ongoing 5-match series against New Zealand, Team India is looking to extend the lead at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. They defeated the hosts by 7 wickets in the first ODI in Napier. In the second game, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli decided to bat and the openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan stitched the opening partnership of 154 runs and the innings ended with the vintage finishing touch from MS Dhoni as India reached 324/4 in their quota of 50 overs.

India made no changes to the squad as compared to the first ODI however, the hosts’ skipper Jane Williamson had decided to make two changes as Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner made way for Colin de Grandhomme and Ish Sodhi. Coming into the chase, the Kiwi faced early blows, as Bhuvnehswar Kumar and Mohammed Shami dismissed Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson in the first 10 overs as well.

On the very first ball of the 18th over of New Zealand’s chase, Kedar Jadhav got the crucial wicket of in-form Kiwi batsman Ross Taylor. The bowled outside off and beat the batsman. Dhoni was quick enough to flip the bails and the umpires decided to go upstairs as they wanted to confirm that if the back foot was in the air when Dhoni whipped the bails off.

The replays show that the back foot was definitely in the air, but it wasn’t clear that if it was grounded when the LEDs flashed when Dhoni whipped the bails off. Taylor had to go back to eh pavilion only because of the fast hands of Dhoni as his foot was in the air only for some fractions which were enough for the wicket-keeper.
