Pace bowler Fatima Sana has been appointed Pakistan captain for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, to be played in UAE in October. She took over from veteran allrounder Nida Dar. Sana, 22, has led the emerging team and her domestic sides earlier and has also stood in for Dar in a couple of ODIs on Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in December 202 as well.
The rest of the squad has been named with the expected ones, with only one change made to the squad that played in the recently concluded Women’s Asia Cup. Sadaf Shamas came in place of wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, who will head to UAE as a reserve player.
However, out of the 15 players named, 10 were also part of the 2023 T20 World Cup squad – Fatima, Shamas, Muneeba Ali, Sidra Amin, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, Aliya Riaz, Tuba Hassan and Dar. On the other hand, uncapped left-arm pacer Tasmia Rubab is a new addition while left-arm spinner Sadia’s inclusion is subject to fitness. PCB has also added a couple of non-travelling reserves.
The tournament, recently shifted to UAE from Bangladesh considering the unrest in the country, will kickstart on October 3 and go on till October 20.
