To claim a dropped catch is not an infrequent scene on a cricket field. However, to term such a fielder as a cheater or someone who goes against the spirit of the game can be harsh, at times.

On the odd occasion, the dynamics of the situation do not allow a fielder to judge whether the catch claimed by him is fair or not. Having said that, there are also times when a fielder, in the desperation of getting a wicket, intentionally claims a dropped catch.

In such situations, it is best for the fielders to ask the umpire for a replay on the big screen for it allows everyone to have a clear look on the catch once again. Moreover, the image of the particular fielder remains clean.
