According to the reports, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has received six applications for the head coaching role of Mumbai cricket team for the upcoming domestic season. Former Indian cricketer Ratra is one of the applicants for that role.

A senior MCA official said, “Among the applicants for the position of Mumbai Ranji coach is Ajay Ratra. He has made an application to the MCA on Monday.”

In the last season, Ratra was the coach of Punjab cricket team who failed to qualify for the knockout stages in 2017/18 Ranji Trophy as they finished at the third position in their Group D points table.

While Ratra is unsure on his future with the Punjab cricket team, he has tried his luck for Mumbai coaching role.

Talking about his new application, the 36-year-old told The Indian Express, “I’m still to get clarity from Punjab whether they want me to continue or not. I checked with the association but they said there is some case date which is scheduled in the coming days. When Mumbai’s invitation came out, I straight away applied for it. It’s a big team and I felt I could contribute more. I can share my experience and get the best from the players there.”

Making his international cricket debut in January 2002, Ratra has played only 6 Tests and 12 ODIs. In the professional cricket, Ratra has played 99 first-class matches, 89 List A games and 17 T20s from 1998/99 to 2013.
