What proved to be the most surprising celebration by a batter, Francis Sande from Zimbabwe’s National Premier League 2024, went viral on social media. This was a hot game where SOGO Rangers made a thrilling encounter with Rainbow 1 Cricket Club, who revised the match to 45 overs while Rainbow 1 needed only four runs from the last ball to win.

Francis Sande found the winning runs, a six off the last ball of Rangers’ captain Ryan Burl, to hand Rainbow 1 victory in their pursuit of 230. However, it was from then on that he really got into the act. In his wild celebration, he first rolled his bat over and then threw it towards the umpire, hitting him on the leg.

Undeterred, Sande then broke into a frenetic jig while the umpire, writhing in agony, signaled the boundary. The celebration quickly became a hot topic, drawing widespread discussion and amusement online.

From an international point of view, Zimbabwe cricket has been in serious disarray. Their hopes of revival were recently quashed by successive series defeats. Leading the side in the five-match T20I series against India’s second-string team was Sikandar Raza, who was handed over the captaincy after the T20 World Cup 2024.

Even though Zimbabwe won the first T20I, they succumbed in the following ones to lose the series. In their next venture, Zimbabwe traveled to Ireland for a one-off Test and were at the receiving end again.

Ahead of that, Zimbabwe’s cricketing fortunes might turn for the good as they get ready to host Pakistan for a white-ball series in November. It will comprise three T20Is and the same number of ODIs. The Zimbabweans will be keen to restore their international standing and right the wrongs of the recent series, among them perennial issues with their opening pair, which had been a subject of scrutiny by experts.
