The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has so far seen a lot of interesting things and one of them happened yesterday when a frustrated Mohammed Shami was seen throwing the ball to a moving Shikhar Dhawan.

It happened right after Shikhar Dhawan moved away from the crease, due to a distraction from the sightscreen but Shami continued his run-up by then and ended up throwing the ball towards the batsman. However, he was out of the crease and the ball was called a dead ball as well.

Punjab posted 195 in 20 overs which Mayank Agarwal called a good ‘score’ to defend but they failed to defend the total on a good surface at the Wankhede stadium. Pacers didn’t get any help from the pitch as well. Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul introduced their key bowler Mohammed Shami, who had the task of dismissing the in-form Delhi openers as they were off to a flying start.

However, in his third delivery of the over, the pace bowler was almost three-fourth on his follow-up before Shikhar Dhawan moved out of his crease. Meanwhile, despite seeing Dhawan move away from his place, a frustrated Shami was seen threw the ball towards the other side as well.

However, after the defeat, KL Rahul, who has celebrated his birthday yesterday, said: “Victory (on his birthday) would have been sweet, so it’s slightly disappointing. But we have a lot of games, so hopefully, we come back stronger and win few games. Right now it looks 10-15 runs short, but I think 190-odd looked good. Me and Mayank thought 180-190 would have been great on this wicket.”

He continued: “Shikhar batted well, so congratulations to them. When we come to Wankhede, bowling second is always a challenge. We prepare for such conditions. It does get difficult against these quality batters. I’m not saying that because I’m on the losing side. Bowlers try to bowl with the wet ball, but it’s always difficult to do that. I asked the umpires to change the ball a couple of times (as it was wet), but the rule book doesn’t allow that.”
