Former Indian player Sadagoppan Ramesh criticised head coach Gautam Gambhir for suddenly praising Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in a recent interview before the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies. Gambhir called ODI captain Shubman Gill fortunate to have the legendary duo playing under him as well. Yet, talk about Kohli and Rohit’s international future has made headlines, with many blaming Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar as well. But his tenure as selector ends on October 4.

About Gill leading the ODI team with Rohit and Kohli, Gambhir said in his JioStar interview (via India Today): “In one-day cricket, when you talk about it, he’s (Gill) very fortunate that he’s got the likes of Rohit and Virat to help him on the field and off the field as well.”

“It’s hard to believe Gambhir’s statement that Gill is lucky to have Kohli and Rohit playing under him. Gambhir praising Kohli and Rohit is hard to believe. Ajit Agarkar must be looking sideways at this in surprise. His mind’s voice must be saying to Gambhir, ‘Till now, you didn’t want these two in the team, and you also involved me in this game to finish my chances of an extension. And yet, now you are planning for your extension by saying all this’,” he added.

Sadagoppan Ramesh further questioned the comments of Gautam Gambhir’s remarks about having sleepless nights after dropping Sanju Samson during the T20I series in England as well. In the same JioStar interview, Gambhir also added dropping Samson for Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the toughest decision of his head-coaching career as well.

“Probably that was, I’ll be honest with you, in two years of my journey, that was the only night I could not sleep. And I told this to Sanju. Because I knew that it was probably the toughest decision in my coaching tenure in a T20 format,” said Gambhir (via the Hindustan Times). “Gambhir talked about dropping Sanju Samson as the toughest decision that gave him a sleepless night. Honestly, does this look believable? If it is true, then Sanju Samson deserves a massive salute. Because he has ruined the sleep of a person (Gambhir) who has ruined several people’s sleep.”
