Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly opened up about Team India and Virat Kohli during an interview. During his chat with IBNS, he said Virat Kohli will end as one of the all-time great India has ever produced. He also believes India is currently among the best in the world.

“They are one of the best in the world at the moment, under the leadership of Virat Kohli,” he said. “It’s a bit too early to predict, but India will always have a chance. Recently they played the Champions Trophy finals, although they lost to Pakistan…they will always have a chance. They are such a good side and cricket in this country is so big and so well organized that India will always keep producing good teams.”

While talking about the fab four, Ganguly denied drawing a comparison with his era. “The fab four was a different era, so you cannot compare two different eras, having said that, I think Virat will be remembered in Indian cricket as an all-time great player. He’s young, only 29 years old, he’s still got another 7-8 years of cricket left in him. Virat Kohli has taken Indian cricket to another level. He will do it more. Virat is passionate, has self-pride and wants to win. He’s a great ambassador for Indian cricket,” he said.

Death specialist duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar can be marked behind India’s current success at International arena. Though Ganguly has a different vision for them while saying “Of late yes, but we need to judge them over a period of time. A couple of series should not be the yardstick for judgement. Give them a couple of years and then we can find out.”

When asked whether Kohli can take Dhoni’s and his legacy forward, the Prince of Kolkata said “Yes…I think a captain is as good as his team. Both Dhoni and I had good teams, Virat Kohli has a good team. So, I think he will do well.”

India is currently on mission 111, where they are eyeing top ranking in all three formats. Despite winning both Test and ODI series against Australia, India had to share the T20I trophy with them due to a washout in Hyderabad, which was eventually the series decider. Team India will be on another assignment against New Zealand from October 22, where both teams will play three ODIs and three T20Is respectively.
