Exactly 18 years ago, Sourav Ganguly scored his ninth ODI hundred against New Zealand at Gwalior as India beat New Zealand by 14 runs in the third ODI of New Zealand’s tour of India in 1999.

Having defeated the visitors by a mammoth 174 runs in the second ODI at Hyderabad, India, under Sachin Tendulkar, won the toss and chose to bat at Gwalior. Despite losing wickets at the other end, Ganguly secured one end up and remained unbeaten till the end. He scored 153* (150) with the help of 18 fours and three sixes as India ended up scoring 261-5 in 50 overs.

Ganguly was well-supported by Robin Singh as the duo shared an unbeaten 119-run partnership off 69 deliveries for the sixth wicket. With bowling figures of 10-0-47-2, Nathan Astle was the pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis.

Astle, then, fought a lone battle as he scored 97 (111) with the help of eight fours and a six. New Zealand ended up scoring 247-8 in 50 overs and lost the match by 14 runs. Watch the video of Ganguly’s ninth ODI hundred:
