Recently, Team India has lost yet another series defeat on English soil after losing the fourth Test of the five-Test series at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton by 60 runs to concede the series 1-3. The last match of the series will be played at Kennington Oval in London from September 7. Following India’s poor performance, head coach Ravi Shastri’s contributions for the team under the scanner.
However, former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly expressed his confusion over the reasons why Rahul Dravid didn’t take the offer of the national team’s batting consultant. When Shastri was appointed, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Ganguly, appointed Dravid as the batting consultant for overseas tours and Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant.
However, both of them didn’t find a place. Instead, Bharat Arun and Sanjay Bangar were named as the bowling and batting coach respectively. Ganguly also said that Shastri should take the responsibility of the loss and he should break every sweat to for improving the team.

Talking about the same on India TV, Ganguly said, “Rahul Dravid had been asked to become a batting consultant and he had even agreed. But then he spoke to Ravi and I don’t know what happened after that. The Committee of Administrators also had added to the confusion with the coach selection and we were tired and just got out of it. So it’s difficult for me to say why Rahul Dravid did not become the batting consultant. But if Ravi Shastri was given the responsibility, after consulting Virat Kohli, then he has to fulfill that responsibility and improve the team.”
The ongoing year hasn’t been fruitful for Virat Kohli and his team, especially in in the longest format of the game. Earlier this year, they lost the three-match Test series against South Africa. Albeit they won the third match at Wanderers in Johannesburg, it didn’t make any difference as far as the scoreline of the series was concerned.
