As per the report, India’s 2011 World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten has been named the new head coach of England. However, England have been going through a tough time in the longer format as they lost the home and away series. After their dismal show, Chris Silverwood was sacked as England’s coach last year. After their 2-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka in early 2021, they lost the following away Test series to India 3-1 as well.
However, after that, a few names came into the limelight who had expressed their interest to become the England men’s cricket team head coach. Meanwhile, former English all-rounder Paul Collingwood is serving as the interim coach but now, he would not be appointed as the full-time coach now as well.

According to a report in Daily Mail, Gary Kirsten will take up the coaching job after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2022. He is currently associated with the new franchise Gujarat Titans as their batting coach and mentor and it is reported that his role will end after IPL 2022. Meanwhile, according to the report, star all-rounder Ben Stokes will be the new Test captain and he will replace Joe Root, who decided to step down after facing slams for the team’s poor show in red-ball cricket since February last year as well.

However, Gary Kirsten could miss the first Test match between England and New Zealand as the IPL final is scheduled to take place on May 29 and Gujarat is in a good position of making the playoffs as well. On the other hand, the Test will start on June 2 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
