Reports of unrest within the Indian dressing room have sparked controversy, but Head Coach Gautam Gambhir has addressed the matter firmly, asserting that internal discussions and debates must remain confidential. Speaking ahead of the fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney, Gambhir emphasized the importance of performance and honest communication within the team.

“Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room,” Gautam Gambhir said during a pre-match press conference. “There were reports, but they weren’t the truth. Indian cricket will remain in safe hands as long as honest individuals are in the dressing room. Performance is the only thing that keeps you there.”

Earlier reports suggested Gambhir was dissatisfied with certain players prioritizing their “natural game” over team objectives. Allegedly, after allowing players a degree of freedom for six months, Gambhir has now decided to adopt a stricter approach to ensure accountability and collective success. He reiterated the value of candid discussions, stating, “There were honest words, and honesty is important.”

While addressing rumors of friction with senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Gambhir clarified that his conversations with them were purely strategic. “Every individual knows the areas they need to work on. Our sole discussion has been about how to win Test matches,” he explained.

On the injury front, Gambhir confirmed that pacer Akash Deep will miss the decisive Sydney Test due to a stiff back. While he did not name a replacement, the absence of Akash, who has been pivotal in the series, will further challenge India’s bowling unit. With Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack, the team will look to deliver a series-levelling performance.
