Former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir, who led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during his Indian Premier League (IPL) career for quite a few years acknowledged that Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper, Rohit Sharma used to give him sleepless nights during their IPL encounters. Gambhir showered praises on Rohit, who has won 5 IPL titles for MI. Gambhir said that Rohit Sharma as the batter was the most stressful for him to counter, despite saying that he was unfazed by the likes of AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle.
During a chat on Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir said: “As captain, Rohit Sharma is the only player who gave me sleepless nights. Neither Chris Gayle nor AB de Villiers nor anyone else, only Rohit Sharma. He is the player who gave me sleepless nights. There is no more successful cricketer in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) than Rohit Sharma as captain.”

Rohit Sharma replaced Ricky Ponting as MI skipper midway in the IPL 2013 and led them to win their maiden IPL victory that year. Since then, MI has won the Indian Premier League in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, becoming only the second team to successfully defend their IPL title and the most successful franchise with five IPL titles.
Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir will be playing a crucial role for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 as he has been roped in as the mentor of the new franchise.
On the other hand, former India all-rounder and 2007 T20 World Cup winner Irfan Pathan said that Rohit Sharma has always made a significant contribution to the success of the Mumbai Indians. He opined that the 34-year-old has etched his name in the history books with his unbeatable performance while leading the team.
