Gautam Gambhir Applauded The Decision Of Jasprit Bumrah

Former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir has come in support of the Indian team management for deciding to rest the fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the second Test against England in Chennai on Saturday. Bumrah, who made his comeback in the team in the series opener after recovering from an abdominal strain, was seen making way for the fellow pacer Mohammed Siraj in the Indian playing XI.

Talking about the same during a show on Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir said, “I think it is a good decision to rest him. He will be ready to go in the pink ball Test match. There is nothing for the fast bowlers here and he has bowled a lot of overs in Australia and the first Test match, so I think it was a very good decision from the team management’s point of view.”

Bumrah had missed the Brisbane Test in Australia last month which India won in his absence to registered a remarkable series win and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the second time in a row Down Under.

Gambhir explained, “You would want to have Jasprit Bumrah for the crucial Test matches, the pink ball one and the fourth Test and there will be hardly any gap between the two. So, I think it is the right decision.”

Bumrah then came back for the 1st Test against England and managed to scalp 4 wickets in the match which India lost by 227 runs. That was Bumrah’s first Test on home soil. The 27-year-old plays across the formats and therefore has been rested for the 2nd Test so that he stays fresh and ready whenever called upon.

Talking about Bumrah during the toss, the Indian skipper, Jasprit Bumrah said, “Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for this game. We need to manage his workload. Mohammad Siraj comes in for him and he brings good variety.”

Siraj played 3 Tests in Australia and finished as India’s highest wicket taker with the tally of 13 wickets at 29.53 which also included a maiden five-wicket haul in the victorious fourth Test.
