On Sunday, the Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya showed once again why he has often been termed as one of the best finishers of modern-day cricket. Former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir said that Hardik belongs to the category of players such as Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni, who are capable of chasing down whatever target is set in front of them.
Gambhir went on to add that he was not surprised by Pandya’s knocks against Australia in the 2nd T20I on Sunday, as the flamboyant all-rounder has played many similar innings in IPL 2020 for the Mumbai Indians. He also added that when Pandya is on the crease, even getting 20-25 runs in the last over can’t be termed impossible.

Talking about the same during a chat with ESPNCricinfi, Gambhir said, “Hardik Pandya has played these kinds of innings in the Indian Premier League, and when you come into international cricket on the back of good innings in the IPL, then your confidence is very high. Pandya has played innings like these for Mumbai Indians. So, in that sense, he did not do anything new on Sunday.”
He further added, “There are very few players like Hardik Pandya, there was Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni earlier and there is Glenn Maxwell now, they are capable of chasing any total or any target. Even if you need 20-25 runs in the last over, these players make you believe that they can score it.”
In the 2nd T20I against Australia in Sydney, Hardik Pandya got India over the line with huge hits in the last over off Daniel Sams and gave India another T20 series win in Australia. Pandya finished with an unbeaten knock of 42 off 22 balls and was awarded the Man-of-the-Match title for his effort. He has been praised by former cricketers the world over for the role that he plays for India.
