In a positive development for Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the contract of Rahul Dravid as head coach. The decision was met with praise from former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who lauded the move as a crucial step in maintaining stability and continuity ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“It’s a good thing because the T20 World Cup is around the corner and you don’t want to change the entire support staff, and it is good that Rahul has accepted it. Hopefully, we can continue to dominate and play good cricket,” Gautam Gambhir told ANI.

The BCCI’s decision to retain Dravid and his support staff stems from India’s impressive performance in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where they finished as runners-up.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India announces the extension of contracts for head coach Rahul Dravid and the support staff of Team India (senior men),” the BCCI stated in a press release.

The BCCI’s confidence in Dravid’s leadership is evident in their decision to extend his contract. They recognize his instrumental role in shaping the Indian team and his exceptional professionalism. India’s journey in the World Cup ended with a heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final, but their overall performance was commendable, winning 10 consecutive matches before the final hurdle.

Dravid, who took over the reins of the Indian team following the T20 World Cup in 2021, initially signed a two-year contract. His tenure was set to conclude with the ODI World Cup, but the BCCI’s decision to extend his contract highlights their belief in his ability to lead the team to success.

Dravid expressed his satisfaction with his experience as head coach over the past two years. “I am genuinely proud of the culture we have set in the dressing room,” he said. Expressing his gratitude to the BCCI, Dravid acknowledged their trust and support. “I thank the BCCI and the office bearers for placing their trust in me, endorsing my vision, and providing support during this period.”

With the T20 World Cup looming on the horizon, Dravid and his team remain committed to pursuing excellence and achieving their goals.
