It has been informed by the newly elected DDCA secretary Vinod Tihara. In the last year, Gambhir was appointed as government nominee but Court-appointed administrator Justice Vikramajit Sen later clarified that Gambhir won’t be allowed for that position till he remains as an active cricketer.

However, after the election results released, the newly formed DDCA members have decided to bring the senior Delhi cricketer in DDCA.

Tihara said, “The elected members will look after administrative side but cricketing decisions will be taken by cricketer. Gautam is one of the biggest names in Delhi cricket. It’s only natural, he will play a major role. You can put it on record, Gautam will take all policy decisions with regards to cricket.

“How can we forget that after the KP Bhaskar incident, he was summoned for a disciplinary hearing and made to sit outside and wait like a criminal. That’s not how you treat a celebrated cricketer.”

Since making his international cricket debut in April 2003, Gambhir has played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is. He has played the last international cricket match in November 2016 against England in Rajkot Test.

Apart from Gambhir, Tihara also wants some other former cricketers to get involved in the cricketing decisions. As an example, Tihara has taken the name of former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas for that role.

The newly elected DDCA secretary said, “We want former players like Mithun Manhas to also get involved in cricketing decisions along with Director of Cricket Sanjay Bhardwaj.”
