The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has affected the world severely. it has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown for safety and to contain the spread of the virus. India’s World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir has decided to raise his hand up and help the people.
In such moments of crisis, Gautam Gambhir decided to contribute his two years’ salary as a Member of Parliament to the Prime Minister-CARES fund. The cricketer-turned-politician took to social media platform Twitter and shared a tweet pledging his 2-years’ salary.
“People ask what can their country do for them. The real question is what can you do for your country? I am donating my 2 year’s salary to #PMCaresFund. You should come forward too,” Gambhir said.

Gambhir decided to do the act to help the Government tackle the COVID-19 pandemic spread that is affecting the country. The pandemic spread of the COVID-19 Virus has affected more than 2,030 people in India taking away more than 50 lives. Originated in China, the virus has now affected more than 950,400 people taking 48,270 lives. Gambhir has also urged his fellow countrymen to come forward and donate generously for the cause.
The BJP’s Lok Sabha member from East Delhi had also pledged a month’s salary for the cause and released Rs 1 crore from his MPLAD fund. Earlier, the Indian opener’s foundation (GGF) has given away free food and supporting the poor and needy. The cricketer had also decided to help and support the families of many Pulwama martyrs.

From BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and other prominent cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, the Pathan brothers, Irrfan and Yusuf have also donated money and decided to help the local governments fight the COVID-19 virus. Athletes like Mithali Raj and Poonam Yadav and WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have contributed in whichever way they can to fight the pandemic.
