Sanju Samson has been in exceptional form recently, and his back-to-back centuries in T20Is have certainly grabbed attention. After his explosive 111 runs off 47 balls in the final T20I against Bangladesh, Samson credited India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, for helping him find clarity in his batting role.

Sanju Samson noted that their support and guidance helped him prepare for the series and approach the game with a clear mindset. Samson’s form continued to shine in the T20I series against South Africa, where he scored a blistering 107 runs off 50 balls in the first match at Kingsmead, Durban, on November 8.

This remarkable century made him the first Indian batter to score consecutive centuries in T20Is. Despite all the praise, Gambhir has been quick to deflect the credit, acknowledging that it was Samson’s own ability and hard work that fueled his success. According to Gambhir, all he did was back Samson and give him the right batting position, which allowed him to showcase his talent.

“I don’t think it’s anything to do with me. It’s his ability. It was about giving him the right number and backing him,” Gautam Gambhir said during a press conference before India’s departure to Australia on November 11. He further emphasized that Samson’s journey was just beginning and hoped he would continue in this rich vein of form.

Gautam Gambhir also expressed his satisfaction in seeing young players like Samson making an impact on the international stage. He highlighted the positive trend of emerging talents, such as 21-year-old Nitish Reddy and 22-year-old Mayank Yadav, who both made their international debuts during the Bangladesh series and were impressed with their performances. For Gambhir, the rise of these new players is a healthy sign for Indian cricket’s future.
