Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as India’s head coach in Tests has kicked off with a remarkable achievement. On Tuesday, October 1, Team India secured a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh, completing a clean sweep of the two-match series. Although India entered the series as heavy favourites, their performance in the second Test proved that under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, they are willing to chase victory under any circumstances.

The weather, particularly rain, played a significant role throughout the match, significantly impacting the first three days. Only 35 overs were bowled on the opening day, and when Bangladesh resumed their first innings at 107/3 on day four, many anticipated that a draw would be the most likely outcome.

However, Team India had different ideas. They bowled Bangladesh out for just 233 runs and then went on to declare their innings at an impressive 285/9 in a mere 34.4 overs. Their aggressive batting approach clearly signalled their intentions, even with limited time remaining.

Despite the time constraints, the hosts pursued a win relentlessly and were rewarded for their efforts. They bowled Bangladesh out for just 146 runs in the second innings, wrapping up the opposition’s innings in the first session of day five. With a target of 95 runs set for victory, Team India chased it down briskly, losing only two wickets in under 18 overs.

Gautam Gambhir’s delight was evident after the team’s convincing win. Known for his serious demeanour, the former India opener couldn’t contain his joy, sharing a touching moment with Virat Kohli during the celebrations. The duo embraced warmly, celebrating their triumph together. Kohli played a pivotal role in the chase; after India lost two quick wickets, he partnered with Yashasvi Jaiswal in a vital 58-run stand. While Jaiswal scored 51, Kohli remained unbeaten on 29, steering India to a well-deserved victory.
