Former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir has come up with a bold suggestion that Suryakumar Yadav should come out to bat at No.3 for India in T20Is, saying that a person in good form needs to be utilized well. Yadav has been one of the most consistent players for India in T20Is. With a lot of discussion around India’s batting lineup heading into this year’s World Cup, former New Zealand all-rounder, Scott Styris and Gambhir agreed that Yadav should be batting at the No.3 spot.

Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the Hong Kong clash, Scott Styris said, “I don’t mind that. It is really tough to fit everyone into this batting order. I have always been a believer in really perfecting roles. Yes, as an opener, you walk up and face the first ball every single time. But finding players who bat at three or four, that closing role that we have seen is so difficult to fill in the IPL. That’s what Hardik Pandya and the likes of Kieron Pollard have done for years.”

He further added, “But finding those specific players, something that Dinesh Karthik has been tasked with in India. So, the reason I don’t mind that is because Suryakumar Yadav, I think, has owned that No.3 position for Mumbai Indians and done it really well. It’s an area he has succeeded in in India and he knows the role. That’s why I don’t mind it.”

Gautam Gambhir explained his reason behind the thinking of having Yadav in the No.3 position and said that you don’t fiddle with someone’s form to get another player in good touch. He praised the 31-year-old’s efforts in England and the West Indies and said the right-handed batter should be coming at No.3 from now until the World Cup.

Gambhir elaborated, “See, I have a reason behind it. The reason is that you don’t fiddle with someone’s form, just because you want someone else to get back in form. He was unbelievable in England when everyone struggled. He was brilliant in the West Indies as well. He’s 30 as well. He is not like 21, 22. He doesn’t have a lot of time on his hands.”

Gautam Gambhir concluded, “Make him bat at No.3, make the most of his form and Virat Kohli, he has got so much experience, he can still come and bat at No.4, depending on the situation as well. I personally feel that Surya should be batting at No.3 from here on till the World Cup and see how the results is going to be.”
