When Gavaskar became ‘grumpy’

During the third Test of India’s tour of Australia in 1981 at Melbourne, Sunil Gavaskar got out of bed on the wrong side after he was given out leg before the wicket on a Dennis Lillee delivery, which he had edged with his bat.

From the time the umpire had raised his finger, Gavaskar looked furious to the extent that he asked his opening partner in Chetan Chauhan to walk-off the ground alongside him. It was, at the point of time, a sign of India declaring the innings or even conceding the match.

However, India’s team manager interrupted in between and calmed things down. The situation seemed to improve when Dilip Vengsarkar came out to bat at No. 3. Watch the full video:
