Ottis Gibson, England Cricket Team bowling coach is on the list to become the next South African Coach after replacing Russell Domingo.
South Africa and West Indies are going to play a three match test series and Gibson is expected to join the camp ahead of the training session. According to reports, England team sees Gibson leaving very obvious and are looking to finalize the deal.
Gibson will remain with England until the end of the West Indies series that is scheduled to last until September 11. On the other hand, South Africa would need the services of Gibson ahead of their Bangladesh tour starting from September 28.
Proteas Test skipper Faf du Plessis though confirmed that Gibson is the first choice in the race of new coach selection but further Cricket South Africa (CSA) panel should confirm it.
“As far as we know, it’s been told to us that the decision has been made by the coaching panel,” du Plessis said upon his arrival in Cape Town.“They’ve chosen Ottis Gibson as their recommendation and now that goes to the board and the board decides whether they want to use that recommendation or not.”
Domingo has been in the role since May 2013 and his contract expired with the recently concluded Test tour of England which the Proteas lost 1-3. Although he reapplied to the post in July the defeat against England made him change his mind.
South Africa went on beat Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand at the start of their 2016-17 season. But the group stage exit in Champions Trophy and lose to Jason Roy Led England at Old Trafford has been worse for the Proteas!
