Punjab Kings’ all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been fined 25 percent of his match fee and handed a demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 22 of the 2025 season against Chennai Super Kings in Mullanpur. The offence falls under Article 2.2, which pertains to the abuse of fixtures or fittings — typically involving visible signs of frustration like damaging equipment or infrastructure during the course of the match.

Though the exact nature of Maxwell’s outburst hasn’t been disclosed, the IPL confirmed the Australian cricketer accepted the charge and the Match Referee’s sanction. As per league protocols, all Level 1 offences are considered final and binding, with no scope for appeal.

The incident likely stemmed from Maxwell’s brief and forgettable outing with the bat. Walking in at No. 6, he managed just a solitary run from two deliveries before being dismissed by veteran spinner Ravi Ashwin — caught and bowled in a moment that seemed to visibly unsettle the Australian.

However, Glenn Maxwell made a small but crucial impact with the ball. He picked up the key wicket of Rachin Ravindra, who had added 36 to the chase. Maxwell’s tidy two-over spell, returning 1 for 11, helped stem CSK’s momentum during the middle overs.
Punjab’s dominant batting display, anchored by young Priyansh Arya’s scintillating 103 off just 42 balls, helped them post 219/6 — a total that proved too steep for CSK. The Super Kings slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat, slipping to ninth on the points table, while PBKS continued to solidify their position in the top four.

Maxwell’s penalty adds to the growing list of IPL 2025 infractions, with players like Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Riyan Parag already sanctioned for similar Level 1 breaches.
