Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a close 8-run loss while chasing a humongous target of 227 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, 17 April. The Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed another final over thriller where Bangalore needed 19 runs to win but fell short by 8 runs on a flat batting track.
Despite the best efforts of Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis, Bangalore’s fight was cut short in the 13th and the 14th over, where both batters lost their wickets. At the time when Faf du Plessis got out in the final ball of the 14th over, RCB had almost 160 runs on board.

It looked like they would run away with the game, but some superb fielding from the CSK side kept the visitors in the game. RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell lamented the loss after the match and said that either he or Faf du Plessis should have been there till the end to take the team over the line.
Talking to the reporters after the game, as per the quotes in India Today, Glenn Maxwell said, “A bit disappointed but I think we did so well to get so close and we were in the position to win the game. One of us should have been there a little bit longer, maybe had taken it deeper. We were trying to go as hard as possible to keep the run rate under 10.”

He further added, “Once the ball started get softer, it started to hold a little bit, we saw how Jadeja get one past Dinesh Karthik back in the end. It was a pretty exciting game of cricket. There’s always going to be a winner or loser; unfortunately, we fell a little bit short.”
The loss saw RCB sink to the 7th position in the league table with 4 points from 5 games while CSK make up spots and reach third place in the league table.
