Maxwell, who had a very poor show in his previous 8 seasons in the league, has returned in action finally after joining RCB as he is getting time to bat and build his innings as well. He smashed a 41-ball 59 and helped RCB beat SRH by 6 runs in a nail-biting match at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Notably, it was his first IPL fifty since 2016 that helped RCB reach 149 for 8 at the Chepauk in their allotted 20 overs and later they successfully defended by restricting SRH at 143 for 9 as well. Howveer, Glenn Maxwell said the role he has been given at RCB is suiting him well.

“It’s a nice start at RCB. They gave me a specific role. To have batters around me gives me time to settle in and play with freedom – similar to the role I play at the Australian team,” the swashbuckling batsman said after picking up the Player of the Match award.

However, RCB bought him for a whopping Rs 14.25 crore in February after being released by Punjab Kings earlier the mini-auction. Meanwhile, he also revealed the team culture at the RCB franchise helping him as a player.

“The support staff have been backing me as well. It’s just about using the experience. Get myself in and then go for the runs. Probably having those guys behind me is a luxury at RCB. Maybe was pushed a bit too deep and expected to go from ball one, which I am not pretty good at. Maybe a bit of culture thing as well. Obviously.. I think it’s my 4th IPL team and there’s a bit of pressure. So it was really key for me to turn up and do well. I will wait for my chance to bowl. Washi is a superstar for us. The more I don’t bowl and hopefully, I can keep contributing with the bat, the more happy I will be,” he revealed.

RCB will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday in Chennai.
