The flamboyant Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been a star player in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Almost in every season, he was one of the biggest buys whenever his name has been thrown into an auction and it is likely to be the same this year around. Kings XI Punjab, who earlier this week renamed their franchise as the Punjab Kings, last month release the all-rounder when they put out their list of retained players for IPL 2021.

In the IPL auction 2013, Glenn Maxwell had managed to grab $1 million when he was bought by the Mumbai Indians. He said that he could not believe it when he first heard about it and also said that it was a life-changing amount of money for him. Talking about the same during a chat with ESPNCricinfo, Glenn Maxwell said, “The auction was on game 2 of that series against West Indies, and I completely forgot about it. Against the West Indies, I got a first-ball duck.”

He further added, “I walked off, filthy. Was angry in the changeroom and there were a few blokes who were laughing and giggling in the background. I had no idea, and I sat down. Mickey Arthur and Michael Clarke grabbed me and took me to the backroom. I was like They were like the IPL auctions are on.“They said you went for a million. I said an expletive and sort of walked off and just sat there and I had no idea how to react. Blokes were still laughing in the background.”

Maxwell was the most expensive player brought in IPL 2013 auctions and was followed by Sri Lankan Ajantha Mendis who was bought by Pune Warriors for $725,000 and Australian Kane Richardson who was picked by Pune Warriors for $700,000.

Talking about the same further, Glenn Maxwell added, “I was really lucky; it was in Perth, I had my family over. My mum and dad were in the crowd, along with my uncle and aunty. Shared a special moment with them after the game. That was the memory of that day. That was a life-changing amount of money for me.”
