Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has stated that the last week or so has been tough for him as he has been recovering from a leg injury he picked up in the weirdest of manners. He, however, added that he is hopeful of things getting better in the next couple of weeks as well. However, he is likely to be out of action for a lengthy period of time, around three months, having undergone surgery after suffering a broken leg at a friend’s birthday party in Melbourne as well.
Speaking on cricket.com.au’s Unplayable Podcast from his home in Melbourne, he said: “It’s been a tough week – spend most of it in hospital, trying to get the pain down and try and recover. Spent the last 3-4 days at home and probably got even tougher – not being able to have that constant nurse care and people looking after you and being able to control the pain side of it.”It’s been a challenge, but hopefully over the next week or two, it starts to get a little bit easier.”
However, Glenn Maxwell was part of Australia’s T20 World Cup 2022 campaign but he didn’t have a great tournament, but finished with a Player of the Match performance, scoring 54* off 32 against Afghanistan in the Super 12 match in Adelaide as well.

He said, “It was all so innocuous. One of my mates, who was also one of my schoolteachers, we were laughing about something and I pretended to chase him off somewhere. It was raining a bit.“I reckon we both took about three or four steps out there, and both slipped at the same time. I just got my foot stuck a little bit, and he fell, unfortunately at a really bad angle and landed straight on my leg.”
However, he also revealed the details of what happened after the painful fall. After the surgery, Glenn Maxwell is currently recuperating at home and his wife Vini Raman has been taking care of him.
He added: “It just snapped. I heard and felt every part of it. It was pretty painful. I was screaming a bit and he (mu friend) was like, ‘please tell me you’re joking, please tell me you’re joking’. Then I hit this ultimate calmness and shock and was like – just broken my leg. I am pretty sure both bones are broken. Don’t think I should move. Can you please get my wife?”

“She’s been on absolute fire – at my beck and call basically. It’s been hard work non-stop for her. She’s obviously still working from home. For her to have a full-time job with me and also be able to keep working just shows there is always a stronger woman behind every bloke. She’s obviously the strong one in this relationship,” Glenn Maxwell concluded.
