The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell started off his Indian Premier League (IPL) with a flyer as he played a match-winning knock of 39 runs off just 28 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday. Studded with eight fours and two sixes, Maxwell’s innings comprised of a 100m six off Krunal Pandya which came in the 11th over of the chase.
Maxwell manaed to send the ball sailing over the stands and out of the ground after bouncing off the roof of the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The RCB skipper, Virat Kohli, who was at the non-striker’s end at the time, was astonished at the strike and his reaction said it all.

Maxwell, who is known for playing unorthodox shots especially in the shortest format of the game, also played a switch hit off Rahul Chahar for a six before his innings was ended debutant Marco Jansen. Coming in to bat at the fall of the second wicket in the sixth over, Maxwell made a solid partnership of 52 runs for the third wicket with his captain Kohli before the skipper was trapped lbw by Jasprit Bumrah.
Maxwell, who witnessed a forgettable outing for the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2020, saw a change of fortunes with the new season. He managed to score just 108 runs from 13 matches for Punjab Kings last season and didn’t manage to hit a single six.
As a result of his poor performance, Glenn Maxwell was released by Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL auction and RCB lapped up him for a whopping ₹14.25 crores. Overall, Maxwell has 1544 runs from 83 matches at 22.37 and a strike rate of 154.24 with six half-centuries.
