In his highly anticipated comeback for Punjab Kings, Glenn Maxwell faced a bitter return to the IPL as he fell for a golden duck against Gujarat Titans in Match 5 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The Australian star, renowned for his aggressive stroke play, was trapped LBW by Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore while attempting a trademark reverse sweep on his very first ball.

Unfortunately for Glenn Maxwell, the on-field umpire’s finger went up swiftly, and his stay at the crease was cut short. Interestingly, Maxwell could have survived had he opted for a DRS review. Standing at the non-striker’s end, skipper Shreyas Iyer joined Maxwell for a quick discussion, but Iyer seemed uncertain about overturning the decision.

Trusting his captain’s judgment, Glenn Maxwell chose not to challenge the call and reluctantly walked back to the pavilion. Punjab Kings, cruising at 104/2, suddenly found themselves at 105/4 — a sharp shift in momentum.

However, the replay revealed a twist of fate. The hawk-eye showed the ball would have comfortably missed the stumps, suggesting that Maxwell’s dismissal could have been avoided. It was a missed opportunity for Punjab Kings and a tough pill for Maxwell to swallow. Despite the setback, Shreyas Iyer remained composed, anchoring the innings with a determined captain’s knock.
