When he’s not dazzling fans with his dynamic all-round performances on the cricket field, Gujarat Titans’ star player Glenn Phillips dreams of soaring through the skies. The New Zealand international recently revealed that if cricket hadn’t taken over his life, he likely would have pursued a career as a pilot. A lover of heights and the thrill of navigating the skies, Phillips has a passion that extends beyond cricket pitches to the cockpit.

Ahead of the Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2025 opener against the Punjab Kings, Phillips spoke candidly about his fascination with flying. In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, he described his admiration for the technicalities of piloting — from radio communications to the intricate handling of an aircraft. His enthusiasm was palpable as he shared that if financial barriers hadn’t existed, his childhood dream of becoming a pilot might have taken flight.

“Yeah, it’s a huge passion of mine. If I weren’t playing cricket and I had all the money in the world growing up, I probably would have ended up being a pilot, to be fair. I love being in the air. I love all the procedures around being a pilot, the radio communications, but the handling of the plane itself,” Glenn Phillips shared.

Interestingly, the 28-year-old cricketer couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason behind his love for flying. He suggested that the desire to fly is a universal human curiosity, and he is no different from those who daydream about soaring above the clouds.
Beyond the allure of piloting, Phillips envisions a simpler, more peaceful life once his cricketing days are over. Ideally, he hopes to retreat into the mountains, indulging in his hobbies without the pressure of work. However, if work remains a necessity, he knows exactly where his heart lies — in the skies, as a pilot.

For now, though, Phillips will focus on guiding Gujarat Titans to success, but it’s clear that his heart holds a dream that one day might just take flight.
