Glenn Phillips produced a sensational batting performance against India in the fourth T20I at Eden Park, Auckland, on Friday, October 30. The New Zealand all-rounder smashed a stunning 46-ball century, continuing his impressive run in the five-match series after scoring 82 and 70 in the first two encounters.

Phillips reserved his most destructive spell for Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, taking him apart in the 16th over. The right-hander hammered Reddy for 32 runs, including four consecutive sixes and a boundary, helping New Zealand cross the 200-run mark in spectacular fashion.

The expensive over also saw Reddy equal an unwanted Indian bowling record. His 32-run over is now joint-second among the most expensive overs bowled by an Indian in T20I cricket, matching Stuart Binny’s figures against the West Indies in 2016.

Shivam Dube holds the record, having conceded 34 runs in an over against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui in 2020. Phillips eventually finished with a remarkable 107 off 49 deliveries, guiding New Zealand to their highest-ever T20I total of 259/7 in 20 overs.

The over began with Reddy appealing for an LBW against Michael Bracewell. India captain Shreyas Iyer opted for a review, but replays showed a spike, allowing the batter to survive.

Reddy then bowled a waist-high no-ball, which Phillips dispatched for four through the leg side. The next delivery was a wide yorker, but Phillips managed to collect two runs towards backward point.

The damage began with the third legal delivery as Phillips punished a missed wide yorker over extra cover for six. He followed it up by launching a full delivery over the short Auckland boundaries for another maximum. Reddy changed his angle for the next ball, but Phillips still found the boundary, with a top edge sailing over the ropes. The New Zealand batter completed the demolition by smashing the final delivery over long-off for his fourth consecutive six.
