New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips finally stepped onto the field for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 — but not quite the way he had hoped. Yet to make his official debut this season, Phillips came in as a substitute fielder during Match 19 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, only to suffer an unfortunate injury in what turned out to be a brief and concerning appearance.

The incident occurred during the sixth over of the Sunrisers’ innings. Prasidh Krishna bowled a short-of-a-length delivery outside off to Ishan Kishan, who was on 14 at the time. Kishan guided the ball through the point region and set off for a comfortable single. Phillips sprinted towards the deep, trying to cut it off, but as he ran in, something went wrong. The Kiwi appeared to twist or pull a muscle mid-chase.

Grimacing in pain, Phillips immediately went down. The physio rushed onto the field, and within moments, Phillips was being helped off, unable to walk without support. It was a worrying sight for Gujarat Titans fans and management alike, particularly since the all-rounder was waiting in the wings for his opportunity this season.

As of now, there has been no official update from Gujarat Titans regarding the nature or extent of the injury. Fans will be hoping it’s a minor setback, given how dynamic Phillips can be — explosive with the bat, effective with the ball, and electric in the field.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing match, Sunrisers Hyderabad sit at 143/6 after 18 overs. Mohammed Siraj has led the bowling charge brilliantly for Gujarat, dismissing both openers — Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma — in the powerplay. Ishan Kishan, anchoring the innings, is currently partnered by Nitish Kumar Reddy as SRH look to push past 160 in the final overs and give their bowlers something to work with.
