Gloucestershire Cancels Deal with Cheteshwar Pujara

The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown for safety and to contain the spread of the virus. Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with all international and domestic matches being canceled. With no cricketing activities allowed in England until 28 May, Gloucestershire has canceled it’s deal with Cheteshwar Pujara.

Pujara has many stints with the various English clubs playing in the English County league. The 32-year-old has earlier played for Derbyshire, Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire. However, India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara’s deal with Gloucestershire has been canceled due to the lockdown across the world from the outbreak of the coronavirus.

In a statement released by the club, it said how they will miss Pujara’s services as fans were looking forward to watching him play.

“We will also now miss the opportunity to see Chetshwar Pujara play for the mighty Glos in the 2020 season which we know our supporters were really looking forward to,” the club statement said.

“As you will be aware, currently there is no cricket scheduled to be played until the end of May 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the world we have to be realistic that this period without cricket may well be extended further into the summer,” it added.

The Club was all set to celebrate its 150th-anniversary making preparations for the same all through winter. The club statement also reveals how disappointed they feel to see all the efforts go to waste due to the Corona Pandemic.

“We spent much of the winter preparing for the season in this, our 150th anniversary year, and we know it is a deep disappointment to all staff, players and everyone involved with the Club that the season has been delayed.”
