Grace Harris played a match-winning knock for UP Warriorz as they registered a close win over Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) game on Sunday, 5 March. Harris’ innings, where she made 59* off 26 balls was one of the cleanest hitting sprees seen in women’s cricket in recent times and it handed UP a win by 3 wickets and one ball remaining against Gujarat Giants.
Harris came out to bat when UP was reeling at the halfway mark when Kim Garth ran through their batting line-up. At 86/4 there was a lot to do for UP in the game, to close the gap for the counter-attack to arrive.
Talking about the same, after the match, Grace Harris said, “I started poorly and I thought I was fluffing around. You need to get the conditions of the wicket and I was thankful that Sophie also motored along. Great feeling to finish over the line. I knew what I wanted to do.”

Harris began her hitting in the 16th over of the match, with UP requiring 70 off the final 5. The match had everything in the final few overs. Head-high no balls, excellent fielding efforts, poor fielding efforts, huge hits, and of course DRS drama.
Talking about the nervous moments of the game, Grace Harris said, “I was getting antsy when there were so many breaks in the DRS. I was able to compose myself, but I was psyched to get the batting and score. I love batting with freedom. The coach is supportive and tells me to be free.”

On the other side of the crease was Sophie Ecclestone, who faced just 12 balls but came out with 22 runs in the game, hitting one four and a six.
Describing the same, Grace Harris said, “She (Ecclestone) is a clean striker, and that is a part of how well I played at the end. When Sophie got a couple away, I just ran hard. It was good.”

Asked about the secret to such incredible power, Grace Harris had a cheeky reply. She explained, “There was a little bit of confusion towards the end, when the ump walked over to say the DRS has gone down. It was a good bit of fun. Don’t know where I’ll find some burgers in India. Maybe some butter chicken.”
