Speaking after the match, Williamson said it was great for him to get through some batting, insisting that playing the World Cup wasn’t a reality for him five months ago. The 33-year-old was making his return to international cricket after being sidelined due to a knee injury, which kept him out of action since March this year.

“Just great to get through some batting out in the middle. It was nice to get some off the middle of the bat. Still some icing after it but it is a part of the process. It wasn’t a reality five months ago but to be named in the squad was exciting. Was really looking forward to getting out there tonight and was really nice to get on the field,” said Williamson.

He also added that Pakistan is a good side, adding that it was quite pleasing to be on the winning side. Notably, Williamson scored an unbeaten 54 off 50 deliveries, hitting eight boundaries in New Zealand’s chase of 346 runs as well. He also shared that it was a good batting surface and they will focus on their next warm-up match against South Africa as well.

“A fantastic day out. Obviously, Pakistan is a good side and both sides looked to get their plans right. As a bowling unit and batting unit, it was quite pleasing to finish on the winning side,” Kane Williamson concluded. “It was a good batting surface. We head into our next game. It will be a different surface and a different opposition. We will look to get our preparations right before our World Cup opener.”
