The countdown for the Ashes 2025–26 has begun, and anticipation is building as Australia and England prepare to renew one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries across five gruelling Tests. Amid all the excitement, legendary Australian cricketer Greg Chappell has singled out one English player who has truly caught his eye — Harry Brook. In fact, Chappell has gone as far as to compare the young batter to none other than the great Sachin Tendulkar.

When asked which English player he was most eager to watch this Ashes, Chappell immediately named Brook. Having followed the youngster’s progress on television, Chappell said he was keen to see him in action live, describing the 26-year-old as “a really good player” whose numbers already speak volumes.

Expanding on his thoughts, Greg Chappell explained, “Brook reminds me of a young Sachin Tendulkar — very minimal movement early on, great balance, and the ability to pick gaps effortlessly. He’s someone who can score off almost every delivery.”

The Australian great believes that while Australia has traditionally been a challenging destination for English batters, Harry Brook’s technique and temperament could make him a standout performer in the 2025–26 series.

This isn’t the first time Chappell has showered praise on Brook. Earlier this year, in a column for ESPNcricinfo, he called Brook “one of England’s most destructive batters of the modern era” and even labelled him as the natural successor to Joe Root.

However, Chappell also advised the youngster to stay grounded and not let confidence turn into complacency. Brook’s record certainly justifies the hype — 2,820 runs in 30 matches at an average of 57.55, including 10 centuries and 13 fifties. After scoring 363 runs in the 2023 Ashes, he’ll aim to make an even stronger impact when the 2025–26 series kicks off on November 21 in Perth.
