In a rain-hit, tension-packed contest at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6, Gujarat Titans (GT) edged past Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets to seal a memorable win in Match 56 of IPL 2025. It was a low-scoring thriller where bowlers from both sides made life tough for the batters, but GT held their nerve in the final overs to snap MI’s six-match winning streak.
After opting to bowl first, GT executed their plans to perfection, restricting MI to a modest 155/8. At one point, MI looked set for a strong finish, riding on a promising partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks. But once Suryakumar fell, MI’s innings nosedived. From 97/2 in the 11th over, they crashed to 123/7 by the 17th. Corbin Bosch’s late surge, with 27 runs, salvaged some respectability for the hosts.

GT’s chase wasn’t straightforward either. They lost Sai Sudharsan early, and the pitch offered enough seam and swing to keep MI interested. Shubman Gill struggled to find fluency and ended with a slow 43 off 46 balls. Sherfane Rutherford injected momentum with a quick 28 off 15 before rain interrupted again, trimming the chase to 19 overs.
With 15 needed off the final over, Deepak Chahar couldn’t defend the total. Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee combined cool heads with clever stroke play to drag GT across the line with just one ball to spare. It was a match that swung like a pendulum, but GT’s composure under pressure made the difference.
