MS Dhoni was one of India’s greatest skippers India has ever seen, but recently, he drew criticism from Gautam Gambhir, who decided to retire from all forms of cricket on December 4. Back in 2012 during the tour of Australia, Dhoni mentioned that he can’t afford to play all the three openers- Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gambhir himself- in the same team as he wanted to give opportunities to youngsters.

During that tour, India lost the four-match Test series and then failed to do well in the tri-series as well, which also involved Sri Lanka, as well. The decision didn’t go down well with Gambhir by any means. Recently, he mentioned that his views about Dhoni won’t change. Moreover, the southpaw mentioned that all the credit shouldn’t go to Virat Kohli and mentioned it to be a ‘dangerous’ trend.

As per the quotes in News18, Gambhir said, “My relationship with MS is undoubtedly healthy, but my views are my views. My views won’t change. I stick to my principles. Not just MS Dhoni, I say this for Virat Kohli as well. We shouldn’t give the entire credit to Kohli. The team has Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, so why give the entire credit to the captain? I think it is a dangerous trend because in such cases, you put someone at a pedestal which makes the others feel that their contribution is insignificant.”

Previously, Ravi Shastri, the former Indian skipper, and current coach of the Indian cricket team said the current Indian team is the best among visiting teams in quite a few years. Gambhir also was critical about Shastri. He remarked that Shastri doesn’t understand how it feels like after winning a series as he himself hasn’t won much, especially abroad, apart from a title here and there.

Talking about the same, Gautam said, “I can’t help, but laugh at Ravi Shastri as he either doesn’t know the records or he hasn’t watched the previous series’. At times when you haven’t won anything, they do feel that the team you coach is the best. That’s because you haven’t won anything at all. What he won was the ODI world series. There was nothing else that he had won. He hasn’t won anything outside India.”
