Young Team India pacer Gurnoor Brar has received a warning for his breach of level one of the ICC Code of Conduct during the opening ODI against England in Birmingham on July 14. The 26-year-old has been penalized for breaching the code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match’.

The incident took place in the eighth over of the England innings, after they won the toss and elected to bat first. Brar, while fielding, picked up the ball and flung it dangerously towards the batter.
Apart from the warning, the seamer has also been handed one demerit point, his first in a two-year period and in international cricket.ย Brar admitted the breach and accepted the penalty proposed by Match Referee Richie Richardson, thereby avoiding the need for a formal hearing.

Gurnoor Brar was one of several star performers for India in their crushing six-wicket win in the opening ODI against England. Playing only his fourth international game, all ODIs, the right-arm pacer triggered an English collapse by removing both openers, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell.

The duo had added 61 runs for the opening wicket before Brar struck twice in the 13th over to reduce England to 63/2 in no time. Despite being slightly expensive, Brar finished with respectable figures of 2/61 in nine overs. As a result of his initial breakthroughs, India restricted England to 258 and completed the run-chase in the 46th over.

Brar has made an excellent start to his international career, picking up nine wickets in ODIs at an average of under 22. Furthermore, the Men in Blue have won all four outings, three against Afghanistan and the latest one against England.
The 26-year-old will likely be part of the Indian playing XI that will look to seal the three-match ODI series against England in the second ODI at Cardiff today (July 16).
