Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently engaged in a heated exchange with a Pakistani social media content creator over the comparison between MS Dhoni and Mohammad Rizwan. Harbhajan, known for his outspoken nature, emphasized that while Rizwan is undoubtedly a talented player, he doesn’t measure up to Dhoni. According to Harbhajan, Dhoni remains the top wicketkeeper in world cricket, a sentiment he believes Rizwan himself would agree with.

Harbhajan elaborated that comparing Rizwan to Dhoni is an unfair assessment given Dhoni’s illustrious career and significant achievements. Dhoni has led India to victory in two World Cups – the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest in the sport.

“What are you smoking nowadays? What a silly question to ask. Guys, tell him. DHONI is way ahead of RIZWAN. Even if you ask Rizwan, he will give you an honest answer. I like Rizwan; he is a good player who always plays with intent, but this comparison is wrong. DHONI is still number 1 in world cricket. There’s none better than him behind the stumps,” Harbhajan wrote on his X account.

Harbhajan’s endorsement of Dhoni comes from years of playing under his leadership, both in the Indian national team and with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL. Harbhajan recently participated in the World Championship of Legends, where he played a pivotal role in India’s victory, defeating Pakistan in the finals.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni passed on the captaincy of CSK to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the IPL 2024 season but continued to play all matches as a regular player. Although it was speculated to be his final season, Dhoni has not officially announced his retirement, leading to speculation that he might play another season.

The future of Dhoni’s participation in the IPL could also depend on decisions made by BCCI officials regarding the retention policy and the Right To Match card rule. Should Dhoni retire, it is anticipated that he will continue to be an influential figure within the CSK setup, contributing to their strategic planning and mentoring.
