Team India continued their dominant run in the 2024 T20 World Cup, securing a top spot in Group A with three convincing wins. Though their final group match against Canada was washed out, their unbeaten record speaks volumes about their title aspirations. While the tournament has witnessed upsets and low-scoring encounters, India has remained a fortress.

Their victory against arch-rivals Pakistan stands out, showcasing their ability to overcome adversity. After a modest batting performance, India found themselves defending a meager 120 runs. However, a spirited bowling attack, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah’s crucial wicket of Mohammad Rizwan, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh is impressed by the team’s collective effort. He emphasizes the importance of players stepping up in crucial moments, citing the Pakistan match as a prime example. “The biggest positive is that when you are in trouble, how do you get out of it? One or the other player raised his hand and did his job that day,” he said.

Harbhajan highlights the contributions of several key players. Jasprit Bumrah’s match-turning spell against Pakistan is lauded. He also acknowledges the resurgence of Hardik Pandya, who despite a forgettable IPL season, has found his groove in the World Cup.

However, the biggest tactical switch, according to Harbhajan, is the promotion of Rishabh Pant to the No. 3 slot. This move has addressed a crucial gap in the batting order – the lack of a left-handed presence in the top order. “To make Rishabh Pant play at number 3 is a big positive. Left-Right combination is formed when Rishabh Pant plays at number 3,” Harbhajan remarked.

Pant has capitalized on this opportunity, currently leading India’s run-scoring charts with 96 runs. This tactical shift adds a new dimension to India’s batting, providing balance and flexibility.

Looking ahead, India faces a new set of challenges in the Super Eights stage. They are grouped with strong contenders like Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Harbhajan Singh acknowledges the difficulties ahead, but remains confident in the team’s ability to perform. “There are a lot of positives. Of course, there are challenges and difficulties. But the challenges come in front of those who are brave. This team is a team of brave players,” he concluded.

Team India does possess the skill to adapt to different conditions and it helped them to remain unbeaten in the group stages and they will be looking to the same in their Super Eights campaign. With a potent bowling attack, a resurgent batting line-up, and a team spirit that thrives under pressure, India remains a strong contender to lift the coveted trophy.
