Harbhajan Singh Wins Hearts, Shares Food with Poor

India’s World Cup winner Harbhajan Singh has decided to raise his hand up and help the people. The Indian spinner took to social media Twitter and shared a tweet telling us about the same. Harbhajan Singh and his wife Geeta Basra have pledged to feed 5000 underprivileged families in their hometown, Jalandhar.

Bhajji’s hometown Jalandhar has been affected by the pandemic spread of the COVID-19 virus across India. Originated in China, the COVID-19 Virus has affected more than 1,276,570 people so far. It is also responsible for killing over 69,520  people globally. The pandemic spread of the virus has affected more than 4,310 people across India taking away more than 118 lives.

Harbhajan Sign has always believed in the power of giving and helping the poor. Earlier the Punjabi spinner had participated in charity, donation drives, etc to help people in ways possible. Bhajji also pledged support to former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi and his foundation which is helping the poor people in Pakistan.

In an image shared by the world cup inning off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh wrote, “By Blessings of Almighty, Geeta and I pledge to distribute ration to 5000 families residing in Jalandhar, who are struggling to feed their families during these difficult times. We will continue to help and support our fellow citizens in whichever way we can lessen the burden of struggle.”

Harbhajan Singh is currently in isolation with his family in Mumbai amid a 21-day lockdown across the nation. Speaking on how the Indian international is making sure that help is available with the food being delivered to the needy, the player said: “I used to live in Daulatpuri earlier. My close friends today completed the distribution of dry ration to 500 families in that area. I have personally spoken to DC (Punjab Police) Jalandhar. My team of friends will be following his instructions and accordingly food packets will be distributed.”

“We are distributing 5kg of rice, flour, oil, and other essential cooking ingredients. This endeavor will continue for the time being,” Harbhajan Singh added.

Bhajji and his wife has said that the will continue to feed the people who are homeless and jobless as long as the lock own goes on and things get back to how they were before the spread of the virus. The ‘Turbanator signed off after revealing  how he feels about his hometown and thanking the local law enforcement officers over there who are helping people in such torrid times.

“I am still very attached to Jalandhar as I divide my time between Mumbai and Jalandhar. A part of me resides there and I can’t see my own people suffer. Cricket has given me a lot and this is the least I could do. I wanted to ensure that if I am able to help, it should reach people directly and thanks to Punjab Police and my childhood friends, we have started off well. But a lot of work still needs to be done.”
