The ground staff plays a crucial role in ensuring cricket matches are played smoothly, often working tirelessly behind the scenes so fans can enjoy a great game. A recent moment of appreciation came from former Indian cricketer and commentator Harbhajan Singh during the Adelaide Test earlier this month.

Acknowledging the relentless efforts of a ground staff member, Harbhajan not only shook hands with him but also gifted him his jacket as a token of gratitude for his hard work. The staff member, clearly moved by the gesture, responded with heartfelt thanks to the 2011 World Cup winner.

Such moments highlight the often-overlooked contributions of ground staff, who face immense challenges, especially during adverse weather conditions. The third Test at the Gabba, for instance, ended in a rain-affected draw, with interruptions caused by bad light further complicating matters.

While fans may have been disappointed at missing another thrilling match at this iconic Australian venue, the ground staff worked diligently to prepare the pitch and outfield despite the disruptions. This year’s Test cricket season has been particularly dynamic, with results dominating the longest format of the game.

The Brisbane match between Australia and India marked only the second drawn Test of 2024, the first being between West Indies and South Africa at Port of Spain in August. Out of 50 Test matches played so far in 2024, a staggering 48 have concluded with clear results, leaving only 4% of games drawn.

This remarkable statistic underscores how modern Test cricket has evolved into a result-oriented format, with fewer drawn matches than ever before. The year 2024 has already made history as the year with the least number of drawn Tests, reflecting the intensity and competitive nature of contemporary cricket.
